The distance we cover
39 weeks ago I started one of the most important journeys of my life. The crazy thing is that at first, I had no idea that I was starting it at all.
At first it was just nausea and two pink lines. It was hard to really believe that there was anything different about me at all. I was still able to run, wear my own clothes, and touch my toes. There was something different about me though; there was...
10 days....
Hopefully less. I have been in “early” labor since Thursday night. Basically that means that I am having consistent contractions but they aren’t kicking off the party yet. It is really uncomfortable and a real big tease. I went into the Labor and Delivery unit late Saturday night just to be sent home about an hour later. Since then I have just been waiting it out to see if it is...
Maternity Leave-Week 38
Well it happened. My cardiologist decided this morning that it is best that I start my maternity leave now. My dizzy spells are back (which is common in late pregnancy) and with my history of fainting he wanted me to be able to take it easy until the little one arrives.
Two weeks to go (if she is on schedule) and now I need to find something to fill my days with. I have a list of last minute...
One step closer
We had our meeting with the pediatrician today. I was nervous about waiting this long to meet them because I didn’t really have a lot of options left if this didn’t work out.
Good news though, I loved them!! They have everything I was looking for: flexible hours, availability to be seen right away in case we need it, its a medium sized practice (read: we can be seen right away but not...
Breakfast of Champions
Since being diagnosed with gestational diabetes, I have had to totally re-evaluate my breakfast menu. No milk, no fruit, and only 30 grams of carbs. Coming off of a “runners” diet this was a really big challenge. Enter….the “McPackwood!!!!!”
Oh yes my friends. Egg, low fat cheese, and lean bacon all on a whole wheat muffin. We are talking about 310 calories with...
2011....a recap
2011 has been a roller coaster of a year. I cannot complain though even with the low points, the high points have far outweighed.
Highlights:
Reaching my goal weight (lower actually) for the first time ever!
Training for and completing my first 1/2 marathon.
Getting my husband to run 3 5ks.
Getting pregnant with my first child.
Going on two amazing vacations with my husband.

Merry Christmas Eve!!!
I cannot fully describe how excited I am to spend time with my family today. We are heading out to my Grandparent’s house in a few hours to see my Dad’s side of the family. Then we will spend tonight/tomorrow with my Mom and Brother. I am just overjoyed to have this time with them.
I cannot dream about next year as well. Things are about to change so much, for the better. I cannot...
32 Weeks
I guess pregnancy is catching up to me. I have been doing 20 minutes of walking at least 5 nights a week for the past few months as a way of keeping fit and staying loose. The last few nights I have had to kick back from 3 to 2.5 in the last 5 minutes because I am getting tired. I am still so proud of myself for keeping up with the exercise throughout the last 32 weeks. I just hope I can keep it...

Holiday weekend
It has been a whirlwind of a 4 day weekend. I have:
Spent lots of time in traffic and on the road.
Had some really good quality time with my family.
Cleaned/organized most of my house. I’m talking about stuff like kitchen cabinets and baseboards. Nesting is in full affect.
Black Friday shopping with the hubby….good times.
Been really active and also super super lazy.
Kept my...
Prenatal class #2
8:30-4 tomorrow we are learning about the joys of the birthing process. :) We had a lot of fun last weekend learning to care for a newborn so this should be a good time as well. I’m looking forward to hearing the truth about the whole labor thing.
Hopefully after tomorrow I still want to give birth (not that I have much of a choice at this point). :)
11 weeks!!!!
Third Trimester
Well it has finally arrived; the last 12 weeks of my pregnancy. Let me tell you time is FLYING by. I still remember starting the 2nd trimester like it was yesterday. It is hard to believe that in just a few short weeks I will be holding my daughter for the first time!!
Rob and I took our first baby class yesterday; Baby Basics. It was an all day class (9am to 3:30pm) so it was a pretty intense...
Happy Thursday
After 20 minutes of my own working out….it’s baby aerobics time!! I love feeling her jumping around. She is so energetic I love it. I just cannot wait to meet her. To see what her personality is going to be like. Just to hold her in my arms and be able to tell her to her face that I love her.
92 days!!
Welcome November
I am so proud of myself. I got 35 minutes of solid walking in today!!! It feels good to be back to a routine of getting at least some physical exercise every day. I can already tell that my mood has improved and I am even sleeping better. I hope that I can keep this up for the next three months so I will be ready for my little one.
On a side note: I’ve also got shiny clean...

The joys of pregnancy
So far I haven’t really talked about my pregnancy on here (I haven’t really been talking about anything on here) but I felt like it was time to get back to the blog.
This has been the craziest most amazing ride I have ever taken. The first trimester I spent most of the day feeling like I was going to throw up. The second trimester I have been enjoying a calm stomach and watching my...
Happy 125th Birthday Alma College!!
Wishing I could be in Alma hanging out with my college peeps and sorority sisters for homecoming. Just wasn’t in the cards this year. Next year will be better though because the baby will be able to come too.
I hope everyone has an amazing day!!!
Alpha Gam and AC Pride!!!
Dun Dun Dunnnnnnn......
I am coming up on 24 weeks of pregnancy and so far I haven’t really had any cravings other than the chocolate milk phase. But NOW I am obsessed with gummy bears. I don’t know what it but they are just so good.
Besides that I am just hungry all of the time. As someone who has spent YEARS watching everything I ate, it’s so weird to be so hungry all the time. Pretty cool...
Babymoon Part 2
So we arrived in St. Augustine just in time for dinner. After doing some restaurant recon in the hotel guide book we set off for this cute little dinner….which happened we found out while walking to the car was right across the street! They had this great top deck where we ordered fish n’ chips and tortellini with chicken to share. It was really good. It was great to be outside and...
Babymoon Part 1
So I have decided to break the vacation story up into parts so that 1) you guys won’t fall asleep half way through and 2) I can organize it better.
Last Thursday we got up and were out the door by 4:40am (this is super impressive for anyone who knows my husband because he is SO not a morning person). We stopped for some Sweetwater doughnuts because sugar and carbs seemed like the best way...
It's Fall!!!
We are back in the mitten after a week in sunny Florida and LOTS of driving. Will update this weekend. For now…being lazy and getting the crap kicked out of my insides (while this may sound negative….I love EVERY one!!)

Happy Monday
We just finished setting up the nursery furniture!!!! The chaining table, crib, dresser, and rocker/ottoman are all set up and waiting for our little girl. It feel so great to have it all set up. Now we just have to do some decorating and setting up the “supplies.” I am so pumped!!!!!!
Now we can just focus on vacation and having fun. 2 days of work left!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lazy Sunday
Per the Doctor’s orders, I am not supposed to be doing anything strenuous. So imagine my conundrum when I was left home alone on a rainy Sunday. Normally I would have spent the day cleaning and getting the house all ready for our vacation. Needless to say, I have been fighting with the nesting/cleaning urge all day. I have done some minor picking up (things that I could sort out while...
At this time next week...
I will be in GA over 1/2 way to my in-laws house!!! I am so excited to see them and the rest of the family. It is going to be great to spend some time just hanging out.
After some family time, it will be time to head off to St. Augustine. We have a hotel room right on the beach! It is going to be wonderful to be able to take my breakfast right out on the beach. We are going to spend most of our...
It's a GIRL!!!!
Rob and I couldn’t be more excited for our little one. She looks healthy and developing right on schedule. We are at the 20 week mark. 1/2 way to baby, 1/2 way to the biggest day of my life. I am so thankful for this opportunity to carry a child and bring a life into this world. I still have so much to prepare for before her arrival but I am so excited!!
Peacock Strut 2011 edition
Last year this was my 2nd 5k and I was nervous to get my time down to what I saw as respectable. I love this course because it has so much to look at and it is nice and even. As I get ready to go run it again I cannot help but think of how much has changed this past year.
As I lace up my shoes I cannot help but be so thankful for everything wondering that I have in my life. My amazingly...
The big day...
Tomorrow is our 20 week ultrasound. It will be our first chance to find out if were are having a boy or a girl. Also, it will be the first time we have seen the baby in 9 weeks. So much has happened to our little one since then, I cannot wait to see how he/she is doing!!! I have been looking forward to this appointment for weeks and it has been one of the only things that has gotten me through...

3 day weekend
I love the feeling of being this close to 3 days of freedom!!! It is going to be so nice to have that much time to relax and just hang out. Rob and I are planning on working on painting the nursery. It is so exciting for things to get started. We picked up the paint tonight as well as all of the nursery furniture.
3 days of baby prep, sleeping, cooking/baking, reading, swimming, and relaxing here...

Well my mom is officially moved out of my house. Yesterday was bittersweet. I am glad that she is getting back to her regular schedule and friends but it was definitely hard to see her go. I have really enjoyed having her here this summer. It was great to always have someone to go shopping with, hang out at the farmers market with, and of course someone to bounce all of my crazy pregnancy worries...

Baby's first 5k
The day started off looking like it was going to be ok but then the skies opened up. It stormed for a good hour before the race started (they had to delay 20 minutes due to the weather) but it was nice and clear by the time we started out (Thank you). It was a really pretty course this year. We went through some of the Kal-Haven trail. SO PRETTY. I got distracted by all of the trees and farm...
Crunch Time
I have a 5k next Saturday…..oh boy. I know I won’t PR but I would still like to have a good showing. I need to get my rear in gear over the next week.
Wish me luck….this is going to be rough.

Happily Ever After....
July 31, 2009 is a day that I will never forget. It is the day I woke up from only 3 hours of sleep full of nerves and energy. A day when I fussed over what I was wearing and how my hair looked only to realize that it didn’t matter because the person I was getting ready to meet would have loved me just the same in sweatpants and a ponytail. It was a day when my dad and I took a little walk...

Fighting the good fight
So the end of last week and this weekend have been plagued by another bought of low blood pressure/dizziness. I chose to stay home from work on Friday to prevent falling on/down something in the plant. My biggest fear right now is falling/passing out and hurting the baby. Anyway, I have been mainlining fluids in an attempt to prevent anything too bad from happening but it isn’t fun to drink...
Weekend
Another awful week at work was made right but a fabulous weekend with Rob and my Mom. It started with Taco night Friday when I got home. Nothing mends a sad heart like turkey tacos.
Saturday morning mom and I got up early to go for a 2 mile walk. She is doing really well with her training! I decided to add a 1 mile run to the end of the walk because I really need to get back into it. Then we came...
Fun times with a great family
This weekend has been amazing so far. Yesterday morning my mom and I got up to go to the downtown farmer’s market. It was SO hot out but we still had so much fun looking through all of the locally grown veggies and fruits along with crafts and homemade breads. Kalamazoo has such a great assortment of culture and life. I love it!! Then we made our way to another local market to pick up a few...

Still alive
I feel like I haven’t posted in a while. I’m not dead ya’ll just a lot going on.
New schedule at work has really thrown me off. On top of kind of killing my running schedule. I’ve tried to at least walk every night to keep active. Bah….
Oh well, at least I know that my running shoes won’t hold a grudge when I do come back. They are always quick to forgive. :)
Yummy Yummy
I just made the most delicious veggie wrap. Whole wheat flat out wrap, Sabara humus, carrots, green peppers, tomato, cucumbers, and sharp cheddar. AMAZING!! My tummy is thanking me right now. And my jiggly thighs are thanking me for running 3 miles prior to this so the calories “don’t count”
700 miles
That approximately how many miles are between Vicksburg, MI and New York, NY. It’s sad because that is how many miles are keeping me from running a great race with a great friend this weekend.
I propose that we just fold over the map and make the gap smaller. I mean who really need Ohio anyway?!?!?! No one……that’s who.
Until that happens I will just have to stay here in...
A glimmer of summer
Marriage is all about working together to achieve a common goal: namely, to be happy together. Cooking is a great activity to do together. It helps to build teamwork skills and has a very tasty result. Seeing as how it was so nice outside yesterday, Rob and I decided that we would take to the grill and work on our “team building.” I present you with the photographic journey to dinner....

Recap and Good luck
So I wanted to recap my first true pilates experience from last night. There wasn’t time to go home after work so I just headed downtown to find good parking and grab a little something to eat. I got all parked and then walked a few blocks to the local running store to grab a Cliff bar. It was nice “after rain” weather so I just enjoyed hanging out in downtown. I felt trendy and...
Trying something new.
Just waiting around in the Rose Street Market for my first official pilates class. I am pumped!!
Learning curve
I have found a new route through this stretch of country near my house. It is so pretty. I am really looking forward to my first longer run because this road eventually wraps around one of the local lakes. It is going to be the perfect spot for all of my Saturday morning runs. A place to clear my mind and recharge. Here’s the one problem…..Cars. Because it is a country road, there...
Rapture weekend
Well I guess it happened…
This is what I came home to find Saturday night around 6:05. The rapture must have taken Rob.
Just kidding!! Although it was really funny to watch him prance out of the shower (where he had been hiding) in his boxers and socks laughing like a school girl after I figured it out. He was so proud of himself for thinking of this. *rolls eyes* boys….
In other...
